Vintage menswear has been revived and is now firmly entrenched in society after spending decades gathering dust in attics. Vintage-style clothing for men is beloved for its rejection of modern trends, distinct personality, and quirky flair, and it’s offering guys all over the world a new chance to express their distinctive sense of style.
If you’re new to the vintage-style clothing trend and need outfit ideas, or if you already have an old stash of retro men’s clothing stashed away in your own wardrobe, keep reading as Standout examines the three most popular vintage menswear trends: classic vintage, retro, and vintage sport.
What is retro style for men?
It’s impossible to dispute that vintage and retro men’s fashion is currently as popular as any other trend in menswear, with bright colors, distinctive patterns, and vintage materials being seen everywhere. Retro menswear has been popular, thanks to TV series like Stranger Things and celebrity style, but what exactly is retro fashion?
The retro clothing trend is one of the largest we’ve seen in recent years, and men may choose their favorite designs from the 1970s, 1980s, or even from more recent decades like the 1990s. Some vintage stylists use timeless items from the 1940s and 1950s to add to their outfit. One example of this that no one anticipated is the men’s bowling shirt, with its outlandish colors and patterns, button front, and broad collar that has somehow become one of our favorite daring fashion essentials of the twenty-first century. Overall, any clothing items that have gained popularity in recent years may be categorized as belonging to the retro style, providing all men the opportunity to adopt this vogue.
Men’s traditional vintage attire
Focusing on material is one of many areas to begin when looking for inspiration for antique outfits. Today’s fashion world is dominated by materials like denim, leather, and cotton, but throughout the 1970s and 1980s, people wore everything from velvet pants to silk shirts, as well as our personal favorite: corduroy.
We used two cord items from Lois Jeans to create our own classic men’s vintage ensemble: the Tejana Jumbo Cord Overshirt in navy blue and the New Dallas Jumbo Cord Jeans in a dark sand colorway. Cord is a material that lends a particularly old air to any outfit. Since Lois Jeans were founded in 1962, they aren’t merely imitating items from the heyday of corduroy; rather, they were a part of the original trend, which makes their styles seem even more unique.
The roll-neck sweater is another retro essential that we’ve matched with these famous men’s vintage style pants and matching blazer. Only the Field High Neck Long Stable Knit from Knowledge Cotton Apparel will do for this timeless item; the dark blue color goes wonderfully with the sand cord pants and navy blazer. A sophisticated and dignified pair of blue Jeffery West Ask Derby Leather Shoes completes this men’s vintage ensemble.
Men`s retro outfit
Our retro-inspired ensemble emphasizes a classic fashion component that we’ve never stopped adoring: the boldly patterned shirt. It seamlessly fuses retro outfit trends with current style essentials. Men’s throwback shirts, which are frequently worn by stars like Harry Styles and Tom Holland, go well with contemporary slim jeans and sneakers. This is especially true when the shirt is worn loosely tucked in and partially unbuttoned.
The vividly patterned Woven Short-Sleeved Shirt by Trojan and the more modern Anbass Hyperflex X-Lite Re-Used Jeans by Replay are the components of the popular look that Standout has replicated. The emphasis is focused where it belongs on the green, blue, and pink checkered shirt since the black pants provide a simple foundation that doesn’t compete with it. The Black Duncan Belt by Levi’s and a pair of men’s classic Cruyff sneakers, which have a contemporary vibe owing to their black and white color scheme, complete the ensemble.
Vintage sport clothing
Men who like a more laid-back and informal appearance favor retro athletic apparel, which contrasts with traditional vintage menswear, which emphasizes a clean-cut, formal style ideal for fine situations. Like retro streetwear, this vintage-inspired apparel sub-trend is characterized by large fits, brightly colored men’s throwback sports sweaters, and chunky sneakers.
By combining the Ellesse Moscqui Front Logo Sweatshirt with GANT’s Hallden Twill Slim Chino Shorts in Marine Blue, we were able to get the larger, streetwear fit we were going for while designing our own outfit out of antique sportswear. One of our favorite men’s retro sweatshirts, the Ellesse sweatshirt has a simple, block-color pattern, and the brand’s iconic sporty emblem is emblazoned on the chest, adding to the outfit’s vintage authenticity. Finishing touches include a pair of navy and white-colored New Balance 574 Suede Trainers to go with the blue components of the classic jumper and shorts ensemble, and a pair of Ellesse Branded White Socks to complete the look.
